Campground Etiquette: Site Privacy and Trespassing

Written by Brenda-Lee Thompson

We've found in our RV experience that some RVers lose their sense of boundaries when it comes to site privacy and tresspassing. It's so easy to do. After all, we're camped, in some cases, cheek by jowl and it's a pain to go all the way around the row to get to the pool when it's so much easier to just cut through your neighbour's RV 'yard'.

RV Campground Etiquette - Site Privacy Use Your Best Manners with Your NeighboursTruth is…you do have to go all the way around. We've had people cut through our campsite, actually close enough to be under our awning and stepping on our door mat. The first time was forgiven, but the second and third time brought me out the door to say "do you mind staying out of my RV yard please?". I was met with a very apologetic response.

Often we just don't realize that we're intruding on someone's privacy. The other thing that happens is we get all relaxed and drunk from the warm sunshine (or just plain drunk) and we focus on our destination rather than the route.

Maybe you don't mind the interloper, but most people do -- they're just too polite to stop you. Use your best manners and err on the side of courteous respect for another's RV site.
