Cleaning RV rubber roof (Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer, or EPDM roof, for short) surfaces is a great way to identify roof fix issues, and is important for general roof maintenance. Whether you are a part time or full time RVer, the RV roof will need regular attention to prevent RV leaks. Proper RV roof maintenance will keep you snug as a bug.
How often you clean your RV roof will depend on if, and for how long, you park under trees, which drip sap, drop leaves and twigs. Birds in the trees also leave their
'mark' behind. This debris can also impact the functioning of your RV air conditioner.Cleaning RV rubber roof surfaces will help decrease black streaks down the sides of your rig. These streaks are caused by rains and heavy dew which washes the dirt and debris from the roof.
Regular washing is also necessary If you park your RV where environmental factors may impact what settles on the roof, such as ash, pesticides and highway pollution.
Not washing these materials from your RV rubber roof could result in permanent stains, or worse, RV leaks. We clean our RV roof three to four times per year. You may want to wash yours more or less depending on the above.
The product you select is important for the health of your RV rubber roof. The soap should not be petroleum-based. We use Murphy's Wood Oil Soap. A medium strength bristle car wash brush on a broom pole or extension pole makes a safe scrubber.
Pressure washing is also an effective way to remove minor stains and clean the small water gutters along the edge of your RV roof. Whichever method you choose, be sure to consult your owner's manual for the recommended method of care for your particular RV roof.

The RV rubber roof can tear easily. Be sure to use care when dragging hoses, pressure washers and buckets up onto the roof so as not to tear the edge of the membrane.
