We are sitting in an RV Park in LaGrande, Oregon (north east corner of Oregon). We left Penticton on October 6 (gosh, is that only yesterday??). We had planned to go from Penticton to Lake Chelan, however the weather was so cold and cloudy/rainy we opted to keep going and ended up in Yakima, Washington. Not a bad jaunt, had we not missed an exit and found ourselves on a bullet run to Spokane (yeah, check your atlas…way-the-wrong-way!). Today, we purposely went out and bought a GPS! A gadget wa-a-ay less expensive than divorce court! (Went through Ellensburg THREE times that day)
Long story short and 90 miles round trip out of our way, we ended up in Yakima and opted to overnight in the WalMart parking lot. Those of you having a good chuckle, just settle down! Most WalMarts around the the U.S. will allow an overnight free camp for RVers. There are no hookups, so we live on our water and battery reserves. This is quite doable for a late in/early out stay.
So…this morning we left Yakima and have arrived in La Grande. We have been travelling the Oregon Trail which was travelled by settlers all those years ago from the east coast of the U.S. We are in an RV Park in a pretty little valley that looks across to the low foothills on the other side. It’s a perfectly peaceful little place, interrupted only by the rumble of an unexpected freight train along the perimeter of the RV Park. Oh well, GPS doesn’t tell you everything!
We have supper in the oven and now it’s time to pour a glass of wine and look over our travels for tomorrow! If you are tracking along with us, our plan at this point is to keep our heading toward Twin Falls, Idaho and follow the 93 south toward Vegas. Or…we may keep on the interstate through Salt Lake City and then south.
We’ll keep you posted!
Love A&B and little b. (who is totally freaking out because she can’t find her bed!)
