Upon leaving the Jacob Lake/Grand Canyon North Rim area, we retraced our route in and made our way to the I-15 South. Our destination is the Valley of Fire State Park just one hour north of Las Vegas. Our travels this day will take us from elevation 8,800 ft to 2,000 ft. We have visited this park before and
are in awe of the copper red formations which make its vistas so spectacular. As we had been here previously on an afternoon excursion and checked out the RV facilities, we were eager to camp here overnight. The weather was back to being warm and clear as we approached this park and we knew we would have water and electric hook-ups to service the RV.
Our site was on the edge of the camping area overlooking the desert. All of the sites are thoughtfully placed amongst the red sandstone formations. We found staying here to be a truly unique experience which we will repeat every chance we get.
The evening and morning vistas were amazing. Climbing the formations is easy because of the sandstone composition. It's like walking on an emery board. Adrian, Bailey and I hiked up a small rock outcropping and stretched ourselves out in the evening sun to thaw after the adventures of the previous days. Fabulous! The next day we arrived in Vegas at our usual "home", Las Vegas RV Resort. This is our third year at this park and we absolutely love it. The sites are large, the pool is warm and everything is immaculately clean. What makes it for us, though, is the friendliness of the staff. We walked in and the ladies at reception said "hey, the Thompson's are here!" What a nice welcome!
We'll be here for a week or two before continuing south. Bailey is as happy to be in the warmth as we are. She's once again wearing her "joker grin". Her favourite pastime is to lie in the sun, get too hot, and then lie in the shade. Back and forth.
![]() It's great to spend time with Adrian's cousins who live here, and check out some of the Vegas 'to do's' that we haven't done yet!
Much love,
B (for A, B and b)
