How did we ever have time to work?
![]() Since 'living' in Cabo, Adrian has renewed his passion for fishing. He, Marty and John have been ocean fishing once a week and they're 'angling' for twice a week! They hire a panga captain to take them out to the good spots. The catch is Dorado (Mahi Mahi), Sierra and Tuna. There are no catch limits so our freezers are jammed. This is a picture of a Rooster Fish which is often caught, but released as they're not great for eating.
We've had many fish fry parties to try to empty our freezers, and I think there are many more in our future!
We've heard rumour that Marlin have come into our waters now so the boys are very excited about that. Although Marlin are catch-and-release only, it's the thrill of the hunt they are looking forward to.
![]() The Fishermen on the right: You can see the catch hanging in the background. Have you ever seen three happier boys?
![]() Whales are often seen on the fishing trips. Here's a mamma and her calf swimming alongside the boat. You can see the dorsal bump on mamma and the small dorsal bump to the left on the baby.
The boys said the whales even swoop and dive under the boat. Amazing!
An hour north along the coast of the Gulf of California is a little place called Las Barriles. This part of the coast has extreme winds and is well-known as a kite surfing and wind surfing destination. The town itself is small and quaint. There are
miles and miles of beach here which makes it a great place to go quadding. We and John and Cheryl rented some quads and spent a day exploring the area. After our day's adventure, we stopped at a Greek restaurant in town. Bailey had been in her kennel in the truck all day, so she was glad to join us as we sat on the patio. The food was very good and the owner's daughter had taken a shine to Bailey. Little Evalina watched Bailey shyly from the next table until I invited her to
come over and introduced them to each other. Evalina tried desperately to get Bailey to play her little games, but Bailey was too busy sniffing the new surroundings, although she consented to this picture! We all chuckled when we heard Evalina call, "Bay-leeta, Bay-leeta". Bailey is really slowing down, but once in a while she has an episode where she remembers her puppy enthusiasm. This happened just the other day when we let her out of the patio door. You can see by this picture that the pool is quite close to us. She
is always so careful to avoid the pool's edge, but this day she seemed blind to it. She ran toward Adrian at full gallop and launched herself into the pool with a big puppy belly flop! Everyone was laughing hysterically! So, Bailey has now had 'accidental pool dips' in Arizona, California and San Jose! The girls from the Fish Fry Gang have started a Book Club. It has been a challenge to find multiple copies of English books. One charitable organization called Ligamac has a fund raising book store. It is incredibly organized and well run. A pleasure to shop. We find whichever books have multiple copies for sale and those are the books we read. We just finished The Memory Keeper's Daughter by Kim Edwards. A well written, but somewhat bleak story. Read it only if you feel extremely happy.
There are several farmer's markets in the area at different times through the week. The biggest one is on Sat
urday mornings, with many vendors selling baked goods, incredible fresh and organic produce, jewelry, arts and crafts and clothing. The produce is expensive, but the quality beats any grocery store offerings.![]() We're enjoying our condo very much. It feels more and more like home as the RV becomes a distant memory!
As always, Mexico has its quirks. The sec
urity guard at the gate to our condo complex cannot pronounce 'Thompson', so he calls me Senora 'Shum-shum'. One can find everything to make sushi, but dill pickles are an alien concept. And, be sure to keep the gas tank in the vehicle topped up, because fuel can be here today and gone tomorrow! You know...we're so happy here, we have to make up stuff to complain about!
