Warren Buffett calls for Tax Reform by Taxing the Super Rich

This week, Warren Buffett stated his idea for Washington to implement tax reform. Known by nearly everyone as one of the richest men in America, Warren Buffett says that he and the other super-rich  should simply pay more tax. In his statement, Buffett called on Congress to implement ‘shared sacrifice’, meaning raise taxes on those who earn more than $1 million dollars annually.  With an estimated net work of $47 billion, Buffett went on to say that Congress takes a hands-off approach to the rich, and this needs to stop if Washington is to make tax reform work.

  >Think about the average work-a-day American citizen. They fight for our country in Afghanistan, they work two jobs at home to make ends meet and the super-rich continue on with tax breaks and loopholes.

President Obama, who is on his presidential Midwest tour, said that Buffett’s idea for tax reform of taxing the wealthy aligns with his (Obama’s) approach to deficit reduction.

Between now and the end of the 2011 calendar year, 12 members of Congress will be deciding how to fix America’s financial crisis. Half the members of this committee are Republican which is committed to not raise taxes.

This isn’t the first time that billionaire Buffett has called for tax reform by raising taxes on the rich. He has spoken out on this multiple times.   Warren Buffett thinks Congress has kept the gloves off long enough and it’s time to seriously look at shared sacrifice to help solve the current tax climate.

There are those who feel that raising taxes will destroy jobs, but Buffett disagrees. Wealthy investors will rarely pass up a good opportunity solely on the tax rate proposed for the possible gains from that investment.

That said, every GOP presidential candidate (Republican) disagree with raising any taxes at all.  For the whole interview, go to:  abcnews.com
